Luke 1:5-26, 57-79
Zechariah’s song in Luke 1 is sung during a time of political, spiritual and personal darkness. Hopelessness seemed to fill the air, and yet God was at work. He would give Zechariah and Elizabeth a son, but even more he would give them a Messiah. After the birth of his son, who we know as John the Baptist, Zechariah gave praise to God for what his son would be and do, but even more he focuses on the Messiah as the one who brings hope. We see this in the titles he uses for this Messiah, the horn of salvation and the sunrise from on high. When we focus on these aspects of Christ, we too can have hope in our dark times.
