Brought Near in Christ

Ephesians 2:11-13

In response to God’s great work of drawing men close to himself by his grace (2:1-10), Paul goes on to remind the Ephesian believers that they have also been drawn together to be one new people. The Gentile believers were to remember how desperate their estate was – they were alienated both from God and God’s people (they were Christless, Stateless, Friendless, Hopeless and Godless). But just as he did in verse 4, God intervenes and draws them to himself and to God’s people by the blood of Christ. We must understand this so that we might reflect this unity to the world, and we must understand this if we are to be effective for the sake of the kingdom of God.
