Penny Greer was reared in Valdosta, the last of 4 children, by parents who loved the Lord and integrated His truths into everyday life – such a gift to their children. Her oldest sister served with her husband in Malawi, Africa for 16 years, fueling a personal interest in missions from an early age. Her second sister served with her husband as minister of music in various churches, giving her an early look into church life “from the other side.”
Penny followed them to Columbia Bible College in Columbia, SC (now Columbia International University) where she received a Bachelor’s degree in General Ministries, having known for a long time that the Lord was calling her to care for orphans. After graduation from CBC, Penny moved to Clinton to work as a houseparent at Thornwell Home for Children. When her schedule there allowed, she began to attend a brand new church in town that would eventually become Westminster Presbyterian. She brought her children with her to Sunday school and Wednesday evening Bible studies at Westminster for many years while working at Thornwell.
Penny became a member of WPC in 1995, and began to serve on the Missions Committee. In 2004, she resigned from Thornwell and came on staff at Westminster as church secretary and Children’s Ministry Director. Part of her faith journey was attending Good News Club as a child and since 2007, she has enjoyed being the co-ordinator of a club at Clinton Elementary, ministering to children in this after school ministry to about 50 children each week.
